What is PlayMCP? PlayMCP is an open MCP (Model Context Protocol) platform that Kakao launched in beta in 2025. It works as a catalog and connection layer for MCP tools. It exposes Kakao services (KakaoTalk, Talk Calendar, Kakao Map, Gift, Melon) as MCP tools, alongside servers built by outside developers.

What I built I was running scheduled tasks on both Claude and ChatGPT. Checking whether each one ran meant opening each service separately. Using PlayMCP's free "Send KakaoTalk message to myself" tool, I added a completion alert to the end of those existing tasks. Now I use it to monitor 6 scheduled tasks.

Key decisions

  • Extend, don't rebuild. No separate monitoring system. Each task reports its own result as its last step, so alerts and tasks stay bundled together.
  • KakaoTalk as the alert channel. It's the app I open most, so results get checked as part of my normal routine.
  • One tool, two AI services. Both Claude and ChatGPT support MCP, so the same tool sends results from both into a single chat.
  • Use PlayMCP instead of building it. Sending KakaoTalk messages myself would mean app registration, auth, and hosting an MCP server. PlayMCP already offered it, free, behind one Kakao login.

Results

  • Stable for a beta. No alert issues while monitoring 6 tasks. I didn't measure delivery rate or latency.
  • More than alerts. Tools for real estate, stocks, restaurants, and jobs were also useful.
  • Having used it, I'd consider trying a feature that sends messages to other people, even if it's paid.

PlayMCP란? PlayMCP는 카카오가 2025년에 베타로 공개한 MCP(Model Context Protocol) 개방형 플랫폼이다. MCP 도구들의 카탈로그이자 연결 창구 역할을 한다. 카카오 서비스(카카오톡, 톡캘린더, 카카오맵, 선물하기, 멜론 등)를 MCP 도구로 공개했고, 외부 개발자가 만든 MCP 서버도 함께 올라온다.

무엇을 했나 Claude와 ChatGPT 양쪽에 스케줄 작업을 돌리고 있었는데, 잘 돌았는지 보려면 서비스마다 들어가서 확인해야 했다. PlayMCP의 무료 "카톡 나에게 메시지 보내기" 도구로 기존 작업 끝에 완료 알림을 붙였다. 지금은 스케줄 작업 6개를 모니터링하는 데 쓰고 있다.

핵심 설계 결정

  • 새로 만들지 않고 덧붙이기. 별도 모니터링 시스템 없이, 각 작업이 마지막 단계에서 스스로 결과를 알린다. 작업과 알림이 한 단위로 묶인다.
  • 알림 채널은 카톡. 가장 자주 여는 앱이라 따로 확인하러 갈 필요 없이 평소 습관 안에서 결과를 보게 된다.
  • 도구 하나로 두 서비스 커버. Claude와 ChatGPT 모두 MCP를 지원해서 같은 도구로 양쪽 결과를 한 채팅방에 모았다.
  • 직접 구현 대신 PlayMCP. 카톡 발송을 직접 만들려면 앱 등록, 인증, MCP 서버 호스팅까지 필요하다. PlayMCP에는 이미 무료 도구로 있고 카카오 로그인 한 번이면 붙는다.

써보고 확인한 점

  • 베타지만 안정적. 6개 작업을 모니터링하는 동안 알림 쪽 문제는 없었다. 발송 성공률이나 지연 시간은 따로 측정하지 않았다.
  • 알림 외에도 쓸 만한 도구가 많다. 부동산, 주식, 맛집, 취업 정보 도구도 유용했다.
  • 써보니 다른 사람에게 메시지를 보내는 기능까지, 유료라도 써볼 의향이 생겼다.
